As the title says, today I have some new sketches that I did over Christmas in watercolor. They were part of a Scavenger Hunt my family does each year. We had to make Christmas Cards for everyone in the family. Here is a look at 6 of them.

One night when his sister is writing a paper, she won't let him play his game. It is very important to Billy that he gets to play his game. No one understands him and he can't figure out why. Can he get them to understand him? "Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of the Mind" Prepare to enter the mind of Edgar Allan Poe in this collection of ten tales and poems written by the famous American Author. Collected here are ten tales that explore the mind. Enter the minds of killers, explorers, doctors and even a man on the cusp of death. Explore the minds of the characters and find out how the mind works and maybe find out who you really are. Included in this collection are: "The Black Cat," "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar," "The Gold Bug," "The Imp of the Perverse," "The Masque of the Red Death," "The Oval Portrait," "The Raven," "The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof. Fether," "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "William Wilson." Hello everyone! I have been doing a bit of detailed ink drawings for quite a while and thought it was a good time to take a break from it for a few projects and get back to watercolors. Along with working on my Edgar Allan Poe book I have been putting together two new cards. One will be for Halloween and one will be for Thanksgiving. Both of these will be available at my next appearance at the Hereford Fall Fest in October (more details to follow). Here is a look at what is coming for Halloween: "Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of the Mind" Contest News!!

Well with as one holiday ends, another one comes upon us. Today is Earth Day! In honor of Earth Day I have four pieces to show you. They are a part of a challenge. Along with these being for Earth Day, they are also an edited version of pages from a book that I am working on finding a publisher for, "Billy and the Whispering Trees." These four pages are also going to be used at a May Day event at Fifth District Elementary School for a Troop I am with, Troop 451 in Hereford Maryland. If you want to come and check us out we meet on Mondays from 7 till 8:30 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Hereford, Maryland. Without further delay here are the images. Feel free to try and identify the trees in the comment section. That is what they will be for at May Day, a Tree Identification segment of our station to promote Scouting. Welcome back everyone! In five days, November 14th I will be participating in the Our Lady of Grace 4th Annual Stocking Stuffer event. At this event there are going to be about 30 different vendors selling various items. I have been busy recently getting ready for this event. I will have several different items for sale. These will include my first book "You Don't Understand" and a couple of new items that are related to the book. They are holiday ornaments made of walnuts and hazelnuts of various characters (pictured above) and a set of four different cards of the same characters. I will also have several different prints for sale. If you are in the area you should come and check it out. Below is the flier that is being distributed for the event. It has the time, date and address for anyone interested in coming to the event. I look forward to seeing all of you at the 4th Annual Stocking Stuffer event at Our Lady of Grace on Thursday, November 14th from 7-10pm!
Howdy everyone!
The time is almost here. I have finished most of the work for the new Billy book and am planning on sending out to a potential publisher this week. The story is written, the cover letter written and my pieces of finished art are done. All that is left is making the book dummy. Stay tuned the next few months to see what comes of my first attempt to get this book published. Also stay tuned for some potentially exciting news regarding a new freelance job. Welcome back everyone! Last week I showed you the first finished page in the tree identification section of my next Billy Beaver book. If you missed that post here is a look at it again, and a new page. This page is for the White Birch Tree. Now that I have these two pages complete, here is the first look at one of the double page spreads from the book. Currently these will be pages 38 and 39in the over all book and will be the sixth and seventh pages in the tree identification section. The trees in this section appear in the order that Billy meets or sees them in the book. Here is the Tulip Poplar followed by the White Birch tree. If you haven't yet seen the first Billy Beaver book, here is the cover for it. You can get your own copy of "You Don't Understand" on amazon. com at: http://www.amazon.com/You-Dont-Understand-Jedediah-Kahl/dp/1484024613/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1366468662&sr=1-1&keywords=jedediah+kahl If you like what you see here, then be sure to "Like" us on Facebook at :
https://www.facebook.com/JedediahKahlIllustration Welcome back everyone! I have had a little bit of time and have now finished up the first page in the tree identification section of the next Billy Beaver book. This page is for the Tulip Poplar and talks about the tree, its family, its height, diameter, leaves and even what the wood of the Tulip Poplar is used for. All in all there will be seven pages of tree identification. One more to go and then it is time to put the book dummy together and then onto the next step, sending it to publishers and seeing who will carry this book. Stay tuned for more news about Billy Beaver, my next Edgar Allan Poe piece and other exciting news from Jedediah Kahl Illustration.
Welcome back everyone! As I announced in an earlier post, I have started working on a new tale of Billy Beaver. This project has been getting a lot of my attention lately and I thought that it was about time to give you all an update on how it is going. Below is one of the pages that I have been working on. Within this book Billy will be meeting many new friends, one of them is in the image. I hope that this has everyone as excited about this new book as I am. I am almost at the stage where I will be sending it out to the editors of a book company. I currently have all of the pages laid out and now it is onto editing the text to get it exactly where I want it to be.
